Conner Castillo Scores!
High school football is a BIG deal in Texas. For many teens growing up in Texas, scoring the game winning touchdown on a Friday night is the ultimate high school athletic achievement. But for Connor, the dream seemed distant.
Connor, age 16, was born with Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is a disorder that affects a person’s ability to move and control their muscles. In Connor’s case, the muscles in his legs are unable to support walking, so he has been wheelchair bound his entire life. But the wheelchair has never kept Connor away from the field.
Deemed the Bulldog’s number one fan, Connor has been an avid supporter of his football team. He has become a familiar and welcomed sight on the sidelines as the Bulldogs take the field each Friday night.
This Friday, the Bulldogs setup a special play. Suiting Connor up in the team’s gear, the two teams momentarily stopped the game to bring Connor onto the field. The ball was snapped, and Connor gleefully carried the ball from the 50 yard line to the end zone as his brother, a senior on the team, pushed him across the line.
With the cheers of the crowd still ringing in his ears, Connor exclaimed it was a “really good touchdown that I did!”
